ZITex

Vabilo članom ZITex za obisk Brazilije - jesen 2014

Obveščamo vas, da jeseni planiramo obisk IT delegacije v  Braziliji. Obiskali bomo glavno mesto zvezne države Ceará, Fortaleza, kjer bomo organizirali srečanje IT podjetij iz  te zvezne države z IT podjetji iz Slovenije. Predviden je ogled tehnološkega parka Ceará, sestanka z "Youth entrepreneurs of Ceará", IT inštituta Atlântico in drugih.

Obisk bo namenjen širšemu spoznavanju IT tržišča‎ in matchmakingu s potencialnimi partnerji.

You need to know in advance some about BR, like, it is not a country, it is a continent. Below are details of the trade.

  1. When do BR say “yes” for real? When you get a date and time for the meeting.
  2. When are BR saying “no”? When they say “no”.
  3. Should you be on time? In Sao Paulo and Rio, yes, to the minute. Elsewhere, time is more fluid.
  4. Are they lazy? In Sao Paulo, working 12/7 is normal for large companies. Smaller cities all better.
  5. If they invite you to the beach house, do they love you? No, they just do not hate you.
  6. How deep does “friendship” go? Not deep.
  7. If I meet their wives/girlfriends/everyone, are we then friends? Yes.
  8. They love foreigners? No, they love everybody.
  9. They love EU? Not any more, they feel EU power is diminishing, and, they do not love foreigners so much any more.
  10. How is the society? Westerized on the top, but not deeper. In some areas filled with fear, middleaged ideas. Tremendous segregation.
  11. BR is not good for business adventures; it is good for long range strategic plans.
  12. There is no one-entry win all solution. Explore smaller cities.
  13. Infrastructure gov contracts: piggyback on other companies, who are already providing.
  14. Explain in the start you are not from Russia.
  15. BR market is big. Their domestic production is ALL for the internal market.
  16. Customers are very conservative.
  17. Faster and cheaper and better - is not enough. Do more.
  18. Competition is high. Corruption is high.
  19. PT is a must. Learn.
  20. Have local tech support
  21. ROI can be slow, but once it starts, it’s a train, they stick to you.
  22. Cuba uses a lot of products. Then BR buys from Cuba. Not only the product, but the complete solution, the tech and the working process, full receipt.
  23. Travelling with a plane in the northern states is like going to a bus, you need to find the right platform.
  24. Federal/local distinction: two worlds. Usually disjunctive.
  25. If someone tells you on a local level to “go to the federal level” it means they do not like your offering
  26. Strong protection of local producers.
  27. Tax (customs) legislation is important. Most important. Find the best lawyer you can before entering the market. Find exceptions.
  28. Local taxes on top of federal taxes, different local taxes in states.
  29. Lots of local certificates you can only get in BR, do your homework.
  30. In Brasilia, a lot of incentives for Public administration tools. Use them.
  31. Labor cost pretty much on par with SLO. Good folks in BR are expensive.
  32. Strong piracy.
  33. Mind the gap: “what is said” VS “what is done”. Example: “We all work on Saturday” means in SLO all are working, and the BR are skyping from the beach.
  34. Very worker friendly. Many holidays (wiki:7 days, federal 23 days, local few more, count 30 days holidays). 30 days leave. Sum 60 non-working days.
  35. When working, BR are happy and work well.
  36. Mantra: “You cannot be big in BR if you are not world big.” Read: they like multinationals want the best.
  37. Many procedures. Most do not forsee a foreign supplier. You cannot pass procurement if you are not there on the next day they call in the 8 month approval process...
  38. Go to existing suppliers and tap their existing contacts with customers and supplier status.
  39. Cloud services are possible on a national scale, in cities, not rurally. International internet is still slow.
  40. There are NO business dinners. Dinners are for family and close friends. Unofficial networking is held at LONG (2-3h) lunches in a casual environment, with fresh food. Connect there, do not be hasty.
  41. Personal sport awareness is low. Scarce cycling routes even in relaxed cities.
  42. Enjoy your AC. Although no one ever mentions, nor should you: the whiter the better, and the cooler the room, the higher on the scale. Expect sub-zero when meeting high gov officials.
  43. Portuguese is a must, have an interpreter even if you speak it, as you must understand when they start chatting among themselves.
  44. Local taxes are a problem. Sometimes sales to another state within BR are hindered due to local taxes raising the price above reasonable.
  45. BR is looking inward. This will not change.
  46. Google “Focus-relatorio de Mercado”, the central bank reports on the economy. According to the general mood of the country, the reports float between +30% optimistic to -30% pessimistic of the actual state.
  47. First step, again: find a tax law firm in Sao Paulo, let them devise a plan for you. Expensive, but worth it.
  48. A single partner in Sao Paulo is not enough. You need a partner in every state.
  49. “Tax war” among states – states want to get investments, so there is always a loophole. If there is none, you pay tax after tax after tax. https://www2.deloitte.com/content/dam/Deloitte/global/Documents/Tax/gx_tax_worldtaxadvisor_130426.pdf. Even Apple is now selling in BR iphones “made in BR” although it is common knowledge they are not made in BR…
  50. Internal internet sales: charge the local tax of the state you are selling to.
  51. Importing goods to BR: if you cannot clear customs in Sao Paolo, try in Fortaleza, maybe they let you through there. Once you get the federal sign off, you’re in.
